NEH Preservation Grant Applications

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is offering Preservation Assistance Grants (PAG) to help mall and mid-sized U.S. institutions improve their ability to preserve and care for their humanities collections. PAGs can serve as the basis for future funding proposals. Grants are available in amounts up to $6000.00  Don’t miss this opportunity!

Ott Fund grants to support preservation

The Rhode Island Foundation announced that applications are now being accepted for the Joseph O’Neill Ott Fund.

Grants from the Joseph O’Neill Ott Fund support the preservation of historical manuscripts, documents and municipal records dating from the 19th century and earlier from the smaller cities and towns in Rhode Island.

Call for Applications: National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards

Washington, DC—The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is accepting applications for the 2012 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards.

The twelve winning programs will receive $10,000 and the opportunity to accept their awards from First Lady Michelle Obama, the President’s Committee’s Honorary Chairman, at a ceremony at the White House. In addition, winners will receive an award plaque, the opportunity to attend the Annual Awardee Conference in Washington, DC in the summer of 2012, and recognition on the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award Web site.

Afterschool and out-of-school time arts and humanities programs sponsored by museums, libraries, performing arts organizations, educational institutions, arts centers, community service organizations, businesses, and eligible government entities are encouraged to consider submitting an application. Programs applying for the award must meet all of the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Awards eligibility criteria.

Completed applications will only be accepted via the online process. No hard copy materials will be accepted. The deadline for application submissions is Tuesday, January 31, 2012, 5:00 p.m. EST.

iLibrary: Digital Futures for Libraries

The NETSL Annual Spring Conference Program 2012, iLibrary: Digital Futures for Libraries, will take place Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Hogan Campus Center at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.

The keynote speaker is Rachel Frick, Senior Program Officer for the Digital Library Federation (DLF) at the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR). She previously served as a Senior Program Officer at the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and has held a variety of library positions including Head of Bibliographic Access and Digital Services at the University of Richmond.

A second keynote speaker, breakout sessions, and panel discussion will be announced. Check the conference website for more information, including registration details, as it becomes available.

Two awards will be presented: winner of the NETSL Logo Contest and the NETSL Award for Excellence in Technical Services.

Providence library buildings to be transferred

The Providence Public Library and the City of Providence have reached an agreement that will transfer seven of the former Providence Public Library branch buildings to the City.  The buildings will be transferred under a 20 year lease-purchase agreement for a total of $5 million.  Currently the buildings are being operated by the Providence Community Library, which provides neighborhood library services for the City of Providence.  Read more details of the transfer on the Providence Public Library website.

ASCLA/KLAS/NOD AWARD

Nominations are being accepted until December 15, 2011 for a $1,000 award and citation for a library organization that has provided services for people with disabilities. The award recognizes an innovative and well-organized project which successfully developed or expanded services for people with disabilities. The award can be for a specific service(s) program or for a library that has made their total services more accessible through changing physical and/or attitudinal barriers. The award is sponsored and supported by Keystone Systems, Inc. and the National Organization on Disability.

Opportunity to Improve Performance Management Skills

New Roots Providence  is offering a Learning Collaborative on Performance Management

Are you asked questions such as:  “What is your Performance Management system?” “What are the metrics you use to evaluate your work?” “Why is your organization continuing a program?” “What are the outcomes are you getting from the money you’ve spent?”  These can be tough questions and it’s awkward when you aren’t sure how to get to the answers.

New Roots Providence
is recruiting 24 organizations whose leaders – staff and board members – are ready to increase their evaluation strategies and skills and to make positive changes in their organizations. Participants will receive technical assistance, training, and a $2,500 stipend.
