The workshop includes interactive presentations, group discussions, exercises, individual assignments, and a keynote presentation by an international expert in digital preservation. Workshop attendees explore the range of components needed to develop an effective digital preservation program. Workshop materials include action plans for organizations to complete when participants return to their institutions. Action plans result in organization-specific plans that incorporate technical, financial, organizational, and policy aspects encompassing the full life cycle of digital objects. The workshop focuses on strategies for organizations to implement now, while research and development goes forward in creating longer-term solutions that can be incorporated into the program framework.

Streaming content for patrons
By karen | March 22, 2013
Library Journal writes about how the Ephrata Public Library in Pennsylvania circulates Roku boxes as a way to provide patrons with access to streaming content such as NetFlix and HuluPlus. For those not familiar with the Roku box, it’s a great little device that allows you to stream content from a huge variety of sources, both free and subscription, through your home wireless or broadband. I personally use it for NetFlix, Pandora, Amazon and various free content sources. I love my Roku (thanks Lauren M. for turning me on to it) and even take it with me if I go away for a week and am renting a beach house (with wireless, of course).
It’s this wonderful portability that makes it a great device for libraries to loan. The Ephrata PL lends the devices with library subscriptions to NetFlix and HuluPlus. Read about it in Library Journal. Anyone in RI doing this?
