By ann | November 7, 2013
Fresh off the press is the new electronic version of IRS publication for people living and working with a disability, showing tax credits and benefits people with a disability may qualify for.
- EITC, Earned Income Tax Credit, is a benefit for working people who have low to moderate income. It reduces the amount of tax and may also give them a refund. Some families could receive up to $6,044 in EITC.
- VITA/TCE is a free tax assistance program where certified volunteers prepare and file both Federal and State Income Tax Returns completely free of charge, saving low-moderate income people tax prep and rapid refund fees-more money in their pocket!
Individuals who qualify for EITC may dial “211” and ask for the nearest VITA site. For more information visit www.irs.gov search word “VITA”.
Have you considered starting a site to help the people you assist? United Way RI and IRS both offer grant opportunities for agencies that run IRS VITA/TCE Sites or who want to help people learn how to file their own tax returns(FAST). IRS provides free training, software, and tax law/software assistance. Feel free to contact Holly Longley for more information
